Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bernie Burnham and Secretary-Treasurer Brad Lehto sent the following letter to Mankato Nurses fighting for their union today.
Dear Mankato Nurses,
As the federation of more than 1,000 Local Unions who represent more than 300,000 working people in our state (including you), we are proud to stand in solidarity with you in your fight to keep a collective voice at the Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS)- Mankato. All working people should have the freedom to join together to strengthen their workplaces, advocate for their respective professions, and negotiate a fair return on their work.
Union nurses at the Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) - Mankato play a pivotal role in keeping working people in Mankato and surrounding communities healthy. You and your work raise standards in our healthcare system, allowing more workers live a healthy and dignified life and receive a high standard of care.
As a union movement, we know that everyone benefits when working people have a voice in shaping their workplaces. Allowing any employer to completely dictate employment terms and conditions is a backwards move and bad for workers.
When working people stand in solidarity with one another, we strengthen our workplaces, families, and communities for generations to come.
The Minnesota AFL-CIO is proud to support MNA Mankato Nurses in keeping your voice and your union.
In solidarity,
Bernie Burnham, President
Brad Lehto, Secretary-Treasurer
